Alexei Marko, CEO & Director

Alexei Marko has worked extensively in the medical device field for over 15 years. He is a registered professional engineer and is a listed inventor on several issued or pending medical technology patents. Mr. Marko has been an executive with Neovasc’s predecessor companies since 1999, and he is a principal developer of the Metricath technology. He is a director on the board of Vancouver’s Medical Device Development Centre. In 2005, Business in Vancouver newspaper named him one of the city’s “Top Forty Under 40” business professionals. Mr. Marko completed both his B.Sc. (Hons) at Queen’s University and a M.Sc. in electrical engineering at the University of British Columbia, specializing in medical device development.

   
Christopher Clark

Christopher Clark, CFO

Mr. Clark has 15 years of finance and administration experience in public and private companies, including at medical start-up Healthpricer Interactive Ltd. and more recently at Mr. Lube Canada Inc. He received his designation as a Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales. He has an Honours degree in Economics from Swansea University (UK) and pursued post-graduate studies at Oxford University.

   
Brian McPherson

Brian McPherson, COO

Mr. McPherson has more than 15 years experience in medical device manufacturing and operations. He holds two diplomas of technology from the British Columbia Institute of Technology, with the most recent in biomedical engineering.

Mr. McPherson has a unique combination of manufacturing, organizational and technical management experience. He was previously the operations manager and served on the board of directors for Pyng Medical Corp. and was part of the team that led the company to its first profitable year. He was also a senior manager and served on the board of directors with Arterial Vascular Engineering Canada, as it grew from 20 to 350 employees.  

Mr. McPherson’s responsibilities at Neovasc include managing manufacturing and logistics performance, productivity and cost effectiveness. As COO of Neovasc, he oversees all activities related to the business development, manufacturing, distribution and sales of the company’s surgical tissue products and contract manufacturing business.

   
Prof. Shmuel Banai, MD

Prof. Shmuel Banai, MD, Medical Director

Professor Banai was Medical Director of Neovasc Medical Ltd., a Neovasc Inc. predecessor company. He currently serves as Associate Professor of Medicine and Cardiology at the Tel Aviv University Sackler School of Medicine, as well as Director of Interventional Cardiology of the Division of Cardiology at the Tel Aviv Souraski Medical Center, and as Chief Medial Officer of Innovea Medical Ltd. He is one of Israel’s leading interventional cardiologists and a productive researcher. He is Associate Professor of Medicine and Cardiology at the Hebrew University, Jerusalem and Head of the Interventional Cardiology Department of the Tel-Aviv Sourasky Medical. Over the past 25 years he has held several senior positions including: Director of the Heart Institute at Hadassah Medical Center, Jerusalem Senior Cardiologist at Bikur Cholim Hospital, Jerusalem and Visiting Associate at the National Institute of Health, National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute at Bethesda, Maryland. Prof Banai is licensed to practice both in Israel and the United States and has received several prizes both for his teaching and research. He holds three patents, has delivered lectures throughout the world and has authored more than 70 peer reviewed articles.
